Youth Speaker entry #2: Lilian Bonus (Tanzania)

My name is Lilian Bonus, a climate justice activist and a student, working on a project YACC, youth addressing climate change in Tanzania.

Tanzania is a country with variety of resources but yet with youth who have no idea on how to handle their resources better, this goes a long with the issue of environmental concern, climate change and biodiversity loss.

Earlier this year I began campaigns in some schools which aimed at protecting our environment and attain climate justice. As a climate justice activist I have began dealing with the youth whom I believe that they are able to come up with better solutions relating to the above concerns.

Several trainings have already been done to make sure that people understand what climate justice means. So far I am planning to start small youth groups in each region in Tanzania, so that they can act as youth ambassadors for environment and later engage in improving the tourism industry through lessening biodiversity risk here. Tree planting and beach cleaning will also aid in keeping the environment clean. Example of such beaches are like coco beach which is a public one, and finally keep Dar es salaam city clean and start low carbon economy in the country, hoping that all this will some days applied in all Africa.
