Youth Speaker entry #79: Ena Peeva (Macedonia)

Why are you guys here? Any hands? How come you are all here, looking so interested to follow my presentation?

This morning when I woke up, I asked myself, why are you waking up? Why do you want coffee? Why are you here? I learnt to play this why game from my now, seven year old cousin Luca. He is asking why on everything. 06 in the morning, 12 in the afternoon 8 at the night, it is a perfect time to ask why.

Honestly guys, the things with the kids why-ies are they never stop, never ever! As I spent a lot of time with them, I found myself asking too much WHY-ies as well, but I also included HOW, especially when I am not sure about something and in order to avoid to look uninterested. WHY and HOW are my two magic words!

Ena PeevaHowever, I still haven’t find an answer why I am here and how am I going to impress you, but I have my tactics ready, anytime I don’t know what I am doing, or I feel lost, I will ask you why or how?

My name is Ena and I flew all the way from Barcelona via Geneva and the Swiss Alps in order to be here and to show you how I managed to change my WHY-ies and HOWs into DONES.

If there is any other person in the World that I know, that is capable to ask more WHY-ies and HOWS,than the 7years old Luca, that is definitely my father.
Almost year ago when I asked him to allow me to change the Lake house into a youth center, the WHY he asked me was so loud, that even the neighbours from the local fancy bar, that is 300 meters from our house, managed to listen to the famous WHY.
To be honest in that very same moment I haven’t got an answer, at least not a satisfactory one to this question, but I knew I am going to do it.

After exactly six months of negotiations with my father, I don’t know how good are you guys in negotiations and convincing people, I am not actually very good myself. However I managed to convince him,and here we are with a Lake House ready to be converted in a Youth Center. What is most importantly we are ready to have a sustainable center, located on the South of Macedonia. It is going to be the first sustainable efficience youth center that will provide young people a place to gather, organize events and what is most important educate themselves.

In collaboration with students from the Faculty of Electrotechnic department of energy, we will have educational courses that will have the aim to raise awareness of sustainable lifestyle.

Recently it looks like I am surrounded only by why people, so when my good friend and project coordinator asked me but Ena,why are we heating the house on Woods, we should have solar panels and heating pumps, the only thing I could say is why not. Remember, you cannot fight with why people, they always have one more why ready to get on you.

To try to explain the WHY I am here and to justify to the organisers that they did a great job inviting me here, I will say that OUR YOUTH CENTER, is totally youth driven, sustainable place that has an aim to gather people from all around the World in order to educate them on Sustainability

The one thing that for sure makes us different is that, for every night you spend at our youth center, you sustain a child in need with necessary school materials and if you ask me WHY, I will just say and WHY NOT!

  1. I’ve always enjoyed listening to young people who are passionate about what they believe in, and who are determined to succeed and make a difference in the world. Truly an inspiring and extra-ordinary young woman. Best of luck to you!

  2. I really liked your optimism and I think that the idea of turning your family’s lake house into youth center is really great (especially since it is self sustainable). I really hope you will get chosen!
